At Fairview Dentistry, we will try to do everything we can to save your natural teeth. Our dental team will walk you through the process and assess if your tooth needs to be extracted.

Why do I need my tooth extracted?

There are many reasons why we might recommend a tooth extraction.

Your tooth may need to be extracted because it is poorly positioned in your smile, or to prepare your mouth for orthodontic treatment.

Your tooth may have developed an abscess, become badly decayed, or you may have developed advanced gum disease.

Will I experience pain during my tooth extraction?

Our dental team will begin by placing a local anesthetic in the area surrounding your tooth.

Once the local anesthetic takes effect, you will not feel pain in that area.

If you experience any discomfort during the extraction procedure, our attentive team will be listening and ready to help make you feel comfortable.

How should I care for my mouth after the extraction?

Yes, good post-operative care is very important.

During your extraction appointment, our team will explain how you will care for your mouth after the extraction procedure.

By following some simple steps, you can prevent any potential complications (such as an infection) following extraction.

When will I be able to eat and drink normally again?

Following your extraction procedure, you should eat only soft foods for a couple of days. You can add solid foods back into your diet as you heal. Since patients heal at different rates, this time varies.
